Space Ibiza, the super club brand that’s roots are firmly planted in the Ibiza clubbing scene. The club became Space in 1989 making it over 22 years old and in that time has done some pretty amazing things. Space is in the middle of Playa D’en Bossa and is regarded to be one of the finest clubs in Ibiza, and for good reason!
With a capacity of 7,000 this cavernous discotheque can fill to it’s capacity quickly when holding some of their world-renowned parties. Carl Cox celebrated his 10th year at Space in 2011 with his Revolution night. Be welcomed trance back to Space with Armin Van Buuren, Gareth Emery Marcus Schulz and more filling the main room. Mondays Calling returned and teamed up with Mark Knight’s Toolroom nights to create a night to rival the competitive Monday night spot. Kehakuma also returned in 2011 and is growing to be one of Space’s most successful nights, something which will hopefully continue in 2012. Come Together’s mini festival took off in 2011 with some pretty amazing live acts and DJs playing, this night also teamed up with Radio 1 for their notorious weekend. Cafe Ole filled the Saturday spot with their crazy antics before the one-and-only We Love took over Space on the sunday for the most incredible parties to grace the island. If you’ve heard of Space, you will certainly have heard of this night!
The sound of jets arriving and departing Ibiza airport often challenge the clubs massive sound system as they fly directly over the sunset terrace, and no matter how many times a plane goes over head, there’s always a cheer from the crowd. One of the best features of Space is their open-air areas, there’s a terrace on the roof of the club looking over the new Ushuaia hotel and the sunset terrace is also uncovered and the first area of the club you will see. Other areas include the main room and the terrace, which unfortunately due to Ibiza laws is now completely covered. Upstairs the Red Box has been converted into an exclusive VIP area.
Space’s Opening and Closing fiestas are the biggest parties on the island, often fitting nicely in with DC10′s and Amnesia’s parties. The club is open much longer than their usual time of 00:00-06:00am due to relaxed licensing for the parties and the car park of space is transformed into a massive arena for the fiestas, making the capacity much larger and the party much rowdier! The line-up for these parties are huge and like a dream shopping list of DJs.
The drinks prices in the club are cheaper than their main rivals Pacha and Amnesia, but still don’t expect much change of a tenner for a bottle of water. The Club also has a fully-fitted merchandise shop should you want to indulge, and there’s often a giant robot roaming the place (I’ll leave this for you to see for yourselves…)
