For those of us who think a holiday in Ibiza just isn’t enough, thousands of people emigrate the island for a summer of “working” in Ibiza. At Ibiza 2012 we’re doing just that this year and as such wanted to help people who are in a similar position and want to know the best way of securing work, accommodation and the much-feared NIE.

Finding work in Ibiza

There’s plenty of jobs in Ibiza over the summer as millions of tourists descend upon the white isle for their yearly holidays. There’s so much diversity in what you can do and it all depends on what you know, who you know and how good looking you are – it’s just the way it is in Ibiza. Here’s a few of the more standard jobs that are taken up over the summer months.

PR for bars
An extremely popular job for young people looking to work the summer in Ibiza. If you’re PRing for a bar your main responsibility is to get people into the bar and to spend money, you’re usually given special offers to make your life easier and you’re usually paid per referral you make. San Antonio is very strict on this type of work and as such the official jobs are tricky to secure as bars are only aloud a set number of PRs, there are however ‘unofficial’ PR jobs going. You could also try working in the other resorts in Ibiza who aren’t as strict, such as Playa D’en Bossa. You’re going to have to be outgoing, thick skinned and pleasant to get a job in this area.

Ticket Selling
Similar to PRing for bars, ticket selling is usually paid on commission basis for every ticket sold, which can soon add up if you’re lucky enough to be selling tickets for a popular night. You’re very likely to have to sell above a quota so you have your work cut out if you’re going to do this job. The perks are that you can work wherever you like, for example the beach!

Bar work
This is harder to get into than the above two jobs. Much of the bar workers in Ibiza come back year after year and as such it’s hard to get into this. Your best bet is to go around the bars in the afternoon and ask if they have any vacancies. Bar work can be very long hours and very little days off, but that’s Ibiza for you!

DJs
Being a DJ in Ibiza is a pretty huge statement, and as such you need to be the best of the best to even have a chance. Forget all of the clubs unless you’re an already established professional DJ, in which case you wouldn’t need this guide. There are plenty of bars, beach clubs and boat parties who need DJs, and although many prefer to use the DJs they had in 2011, there’s still the possibility of getting a job this year. Good luck!

Dancers / Performers
All of the clubs in Ibiza have a huge team of dancers and performers who make club nights extra special. Of course experience is essential in this area and like me, you can’t just rock up with no experience of dancing or performing. The clubs hold their auditions for these jobs in April / May and advertise these audition dates on their social profiles, so keep an eye out on these.

Finding accommodation in Ibiza

Once you’ve found a job you’re going to need to sort out your digs pretty sharpish. There’s a great selection of workers accommodation in Ibiza to choose from with the majority being in San Antonio. The workers apartments are usually let out for 4-5 months and all will require a months deposit and the first months rent to secure the apartment. Many of the workers apartments can sleep from 4-6 people so can become fairly cheap to rent if you’re happy to share. Here’s a few of the workers apartments you can choose from:
